Sleeping woman wakes to stranger sexually assaulting her inside home, CA cops say
A woman reported waking up to a stranger sexually assaulting her in her home, California police said, and now a 24-year man has been arrested.
Santa Cruz officers responded to the woman’s home at about 11 p.m. July 1 after she called 911, the department said in a July 3 post on Facebook.
Law enforcement “established a perimeter around the neighborhood,” an officer and K-9 searched yards, and reverse 911 notifications were sent, police said. But, a suspect wasn’t immediately found, according to police.
However, detectives “processed evidence, reviewed CCTV footage and followed up on leads,” and eventually a suspect was identified, police said.
The 24-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to commit a felony sex crime during the commission of a burglary of the first degree, according to police. He’d recently moved to the area, police said.
McClatchy News reached out to prosecutors July 3 about whether formal charges have been filed and was waiting to hear back.
Santa Cruz is about an 80-mile drive southeast from San Francisco.
