Stranger shoots and kills 20-year-old outside metro station, DC officials say
A 34-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a stranger in the head near a metro station in Washington, D.C., is heading to prison, officials said.
Tyriq Williams, from the district, was sentenced to 16 years behind bars after pleading guilty in superior court to second-degree murder while armed, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith announced in a July 9 news release.
He also must serve five years of supervised release, officials said.
McClatchy News reached out to his attorney July 10 and was awaiting a response.
Williams is accused of killing 20-year-old Terry Clark on Jan. 7, 2023, near the Navy Yard Metro Station.
The two men “did not know each other,” officials said, but “(Williams) and his girlfriend encountered Mr. Clark” while heading out of the station. Officials didn’t provide details on the encounter in the release.
After Williams and Clark both exited, “Williams turned around and shot Mr. Clark one time in the head,” killing him, according to officials.
Williams then caught a train to a different station and got on a bus, officials said.
The shooting itself wasn’t caught on security video, but Williams was seen on footage “around the metro station and on the bus,” officials said.
“After an investigation, Williams was apprehended, and detectives found, pursuant to a search warrant of the defendant’s home, distinctive clothing that he wore on the night of the shooting,” according to officials.
