Missing mariners found dead after boat found capsized on breakwater, officials say
Two boaters reported missing were found dead after their vessel was found capsized on a breakwater in a Connecticut harbor, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
The two were reported overdue on the morning of Thursday, July 10, the Coast Guard said in a Friday, July 11, news release. They were reportedly on a boat trip between Stratford and Norwalk the previous evening.
Searchers discovered the two had made reservations at a New Haven restaurant that night and they were seen on marina security video aboard their vessel.
After they were reported overdue the next day, searchers found their boat capsized on the harbor breakwater, the Coast Guard said.
The two missing boaters were found in the water near the breakwater that evening, the Coast Guard said. Divers recovered them, and they were taken to a nearby firehouse and pronounced dead.
An investigation into the incident continues.
New Haven is about a 40-mile drive south from Hartford.
