One killed, two missing as six people swept over waterfall, Oregon cops say

UPDATE: The body of a woman killed in the accident was recovered below the falls at about 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. One person remains missing.

One person died and two others are missing after six people were swept over a waterfall, Oregon sheriff’s officials reported.

Callers to 911 reported six people went over Dillon Falls on the Deschutes River near Bend just before 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Bend police officers and firefighters responded with sheriff’s deputies, the sheriff’s office said. Three people were rescued from the river.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and two others remain missing, deputies said.

Search and rescue teams continue to look for the missing people.

Dillon Falls features a 15-foot drop that “almost immediately turns into churning rapids in a quick, step ladder-like pattern,” Visit Central Oregon said.

Bend is about a 175-mile drive southeast from Portland.
