Defense supplier L3Harris Technologies has secured a $955 million contract from an agency under the U.S. Space Force to produce 18 satellites for the country's Golden Dome missile defense shield, according to statements from the company and agency on Monday.

L3Harris has expanded space and satellite manufacturing capacity in the U.S. over the last year in a bid to contribute to President Donald Trump's Golden Dome plan.

• With the new contract from the Space Development Agency, L3Harris has received orders for at least 70 missile-tracking and defense satellites from the U.S., of which five are in orbit.

• The satellites are capable of detecting and tracking advanced missile threats, L3Harris said.

• L3Harris will begin production of these satellites immediately, the company added.

• Defense contractors like L3Harris have benefited from record defense spending in the U.S. and increasing geopolitical tensions around the world.
