Watch as ‘cute little thief’ notices a trail camera — then steals part of it in Canada
Wandering through the wilderness of Canada, a “cute little thief” stumbled on a trail camera and decided to make some adjustments to the set up, a video shows.
The coyote pup walked into a sunny clearing and looked around, “seemingly in wonder at the sights and sounds of this marsh,” David Troup wrote in a Sept. 12 post on Yukon Wildlife Cams Facebook page.
The pup surveyed the area for a few moments and walked toward the nearby trail camera, the video shows. At first, the young coyote doesn’t seem to notice the camera. When it does, it jumps back from the contraption.
The camera tilts, and a crunching noise is heard in the video. The coyote stole “the plastic rain cover velcroed to the metal security case,” Troup wrote.
With the camera piece in its mouth, the coyote surveys the landscape and walks away, the video shows.
Troup told McClatchy News he found the rain cover the pup had stolen. The camera wasn’t damaged, and Troup wrote in Facebook comments that he put the rain cover back in its proper place.
“What a cute little thief,” a Facebook user commented.
“That’s got to be a once in a lifetime image,” another person wrote.
“Little curious and resourceful....pup!” one user commented.
The video was filmed Aug. 23 in Yukon, a northwestern Canadian province that borders Alaska.
Troup began filming Yukon’s wildlife in 2018, using “motion activated trail cameras,” he told McClatchy News previously. Using 15 to 24 cameras at a time, he’s captured footage of over a dozen different animals ranging from bears to wolves to porcupines.
Still, Troup says he’s “really not even scratching the surface” of Yukon’s wildlife.
