Watch as dozens of baby sharks feed along beach in Australia. ‘New fear unlocked’

While walking along a beach in Australia, a woman spotted something splashing in the shallows — and encountered dozens of baby sharks. A video shows the “unexpected surprise.”
Wendy Martin was out for an early morning walk on a beach in Burleigh Heads when she saw “30 plus baby sharks in the shallows feeding on bait fish,” according to her Dec. 28 Facebook post. A video shows the feeding frenzy.
Three small sharks almost appear to be beached in the shallow water, the video shows. Roughly half of their bodies appear to be above water, and they seem to be resting on the sand. Incoming waves crash into the sharks and help carry them slightly farther out.
In the pink-hued sunlight, several triangular shark fins can be seen along the beach. A few birds are also visible in the video.
Martin wrote that the encounter was a “first for me” and an “unexpected surprise.” She also posted a second video with “some very curious dogs” checking out the sharks.
The video shows two dogs following a shark through the water. The videographer approaches the splashing shark moments before a wave pushes the animal even closer to shore. The video ends with the shark swimming toward the sea.
“I have lived locally since 1981 and have never seen anything like it,” Martin told McClatchy News via Facebook Messenger. “We have had a lot of extreme storm behaviour so perhaps the conditions brought (the sharks) to the shoreline.”
Several Facebook users identified the sharks as blacktip sharks.
“New fear unlocked,” one Facebook user commented on the video shared by 9 News Queensland, an Australian news outlet.
“This is the reason you only swim in pools,” another user wrote.
Burleigh Heads is in Queensland and about 420 miles northeast of Sydney.
