Updates: Unofficial results for York, Lancaster, Chester primary races

Voters in York, Lancaster and Chester counties cast their ballot Tuesday in several contested county, state and federal primary elections that will determine the respective Democratic and Republican candidates in November.

Concern for the coronavirus did not stop voters from participating in contests for S.C. House and Senate races, U.S. House seats and several local county races. Even before Tuesday, the York County voter registration office had received a record high number of absentee ballots, officials said

The final results won’t be available until the board of elections certifies them.

Tuesday, Lancaster County precincts had about 21% voter turnout. Chester County, which has 20,657 registered voters, had 24% voter turnout. And York County reported about 18% turnout.

Earlier in the night, the Associated Press declared former University of South Carolina Gamecocks wide receiver Moe Brown winner of the 5th District Democratic primary against challenger Sidney Moore, a former York County Council member.

Brown will face incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman in November.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday 100% of precincts in York, Chester and Lancaster counties, and South Carolina had reported in. Incumbents are marked by an asterisk.
