Election season is back, and dozens of candidates filed this month to run in countywide and statewide races in York, Lancaster and Chester counties.

A handful of county council seats are up for election this year in the three counties, along with probate judge seats.

Voters in the three counties also will need to decide several S.C. House of Representatives seats. In York County, some longtime incumbents are not seeking reelection, including, state House Majority Leader Gary Simrill and Rep. Bruce Bryant.

And for the first time, some York County residents will have the chance to vote for S.C. House District 66, which was shifted from Orangeburg to the Fort Mill and Tega Cay area as part of the once-a-decade redistricting process.

Filing for partisan races in 2022 closed Wednesday. Filing for nonpartisan races will open in August. Races with more than one party candidate will be decided in the statewide primary on June 14. The winners will go on to the general election in November.
