6-year-old child shot, killed in hunting accident in SC Midlands

A 6-year-old died after being shot in a hunting accident in Orangeburg County Friday, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of a 6-year-old who was killed after being accidentally shot Friday morning in a hunting accident in Orangeburg County near the Calhoun County line,” according to a posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The child was shot around 8:30 a.m. in a wooded area on Whisperwood Road, which is in an unincorporated area near Cameron, according to The Times and Democrat newspaper in Orangeburg.

The victim’s identity has not been released, and other details were not available. The DNR is investigating. Check back for more details.
