Two Republican contenders for Rock Hill’s state Senate seat will face off in a debate prior to June’s primary election.
Incumbent state Sen. Wes Hayes and former York County GOP chairman Wes Climer will debate each other at 7 p.m. May 19, in Winthrop University's Richardson Ballroom.
The county’s current GOP chairman, Joel Hamilton, confirmed the debate to The Herald, which will pit a local fixture seeking his seventh term in the S.C. Senate against a former congressional aide seeking his first elected office.
Winthrop professor Scott Huffmon, director of the Winthrop Poll, will moderate the discussion.
The GOP primary is June 14. The winner will not face opposition in the November general election.
