Competitor or spectator, Come-See-Me has an event for you
From tricycle races to college baseball games, Come-See-Me has put together a diverse group of sporting events for all ages, whether you play or watch – or both.
Open to serious and not-so-serious runners are the Come-See-Me road races, which include a half-marathon at 7 a.m., 5K at 7:30 a.m. and fun run at 8:15 a.m. April 18, beginning at the stadium at South Pointe High School. Register at the Charlotte Avenue YMCA, at queencitytiming.com or at comeseeme.org.
The half-marathon is on a USATF-certified course on paved streets through farm and residential areas. Prizes will be awarded to top male and female winners. The registration fee is $65, or $50 if you preregister.
The certified 5K Road Race is on paved streets through residential areas. Top male and female runners will be awarded. Preregistration is $20 or $25 on race day.
The Fun Run is a free one-mile event for all ages and types of entries, even parents pushing strollers. No registration is required. Medals will be awarded to children who participate.
For those who enjoy water, there is a guided kayak tour of the Catawba River for ages 9 and up from Camp Canaan to the Riverwalk at 11:30 a.m. April 18. Kayak rental and lunch is $49. Lunch only is $25.
That afternoon at the Healthy Kids Zone at the Giordana Velodrome, there will be tricycle races, sports inflatables, fitness dancing and more. Kids can also learn about bike safety and go home with a free helmet.
Golfers can enjoy the Come-See-Me golf tournament, a four-man captain’s choice, with tee-off at 12:45 p.m. April 21 at Pinetuck Golf Course. The cost is $240 per team, with awards and door prizes. Proceeds benefit the Children’s Attention Home and Palmetto School. Entry forms are available at the golf course.
For those who prefer the stands, the Winthrop baseball team has a three-game series with UNC Asheville April 17-19 at the university’s athletic fields. Tickets are required.

Tennis enthusiasts can watch the South Carolina Junior State Open Tennis Championships, which begin April 24, with matches being held at the Rock Hill Tennis Center, Winthrop University and all three Rock Hill high schools.
One of the most highly anticipated events each year is the “Make a Bed and Make a Difference” Bed Race on April 25, which brings out the hilarious – but no less serious – side of competition among its participants. Proceeds go to local charities.
The Rock Hill Boxing Club is holding an extravaganza for the area’s top talent at 3 p.m. April 25 at the Emmett Scott Recreation Center. Competition is open to ages 8 and up.
There will be an afternoon of cornhole at the Tailgate Party on the last day of the festival. The first round of competition begins at noon with teams of two competing for prizes. The entry fee is $40 per team. American Cornhole Organization rules will apply. To register, go to csmcornhole.com.
