Thief steals 3 pairs of Travis Scott Nike shoes worth $7,200 from NC store, cops say
Rapper Travis Scott dropped a new pair of sneakers in collaboration with Nike that sold out online within 24 hours, CNN reported. According to Scott’s Twitter account, they aren’t set to be released in stores until Feb. 29.
That didn’t stop a thief in North Carolina, cops say.
Someone made off with three pairs of the Travis Scott x Nike SB Dunk Low sneakers valued at $2,400 each during an armed robbery on Tuesday, according to the Asheville Police Department.
“An employee who was closing up the store reported that he had been robbed at gunpoint by a male wearing black clothing and a mask,” police said in a news release. “Officers set up a perimeter and utilized a K9 to attempt to track the suspect, but were unsuccessful.”
The sneakers were taken from Sole82 — an “exclusive sneaker boutique and kicks store” in Asheville, according to its website.
Scott announced on Twitter the shoes from Nike’s skateboarding line would be available exclusively through his website starting Feb. 22, where they sold for $150 a pair.
According to SneakerNews.com, the release “sent the sneaker world into a frenzy” and were soon sold out. Scott is expected to drop a “winning email” to a few lucky customers later this week, but the sneaker website reported “the pair is undoubtedly going to be difficult to track down.”
Select shoe and skate shops are set to sell them in-stores starting Saturday — including at least 10 locations in North Carolina, according to SneakerNews.com.
But the Nike SB Dunk Lows were already selling on sneaker marketplaces such as StockX for $1,200 a pair by Wednesday.
Law enforcement responded to the store in Asheville at around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
