The PGA TOUR Superstore plans to open in the spring at 5341 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Childress Klein, owner and manager of the shopping center, said in a news release Tuesday. The 35,640-square-foot store specializes in golf, tennis and pickleball accessories and equipment.

The retailer uses technology for its fittings studio and interactive simulators and practice bays. The store also will feature a putting green, as well as lessons and skills contests.

The new store joins other retailers at Promenade on Providence including Ann Taylor Loft, Hallmark, Jos A. Bank, The Fresh Market, Sun & Ski Sports and Total Wine& More. The South Charlotte shopping center has several clubs and golf courses nearby including Providence and Raintree country clubs and TPC Piper Glen.

The PGA TOUR Superstore will hire about 40 full- and part-time employees, according to the company.

Golf venue growth

The retail store news follows several golf entertainment venues opening in the Charlotte area.

On Friday, The Puttery, by Drive Shack, will open its adults-only golf entertainment spot in South End and Brookhill neighborhoods. Puttery Charlotte will feature two themed golf courses, two bars, garage-style doors for an indoor/outdoor patio experience, and multiple lounges and seating areas.

In June, Topgolf opened its second venue in Charlotte on Macfarlane Boulevard, near Ikea off Interstate 85, in University City. Topgolf is a multi-level, indoor-outdoor 65,000-square-foot venue where players aim for targets, also includes a restaurant and bar. The first Charlotte location opened four years ago in Steele Creek.

Also in June, X-Golf America opened in York County at 1177 Stonecrest Blvd. in Tega Cay, S.C., about 10 miles from uptown Charlotte. It offers indoor golf simulator technology that replicates golf shots, including short games and putting, through camera systems, infrared lasers, impact sensors and advanced gaming software. X-Golf offers virtual golf competitions, leagues and lessons for all skill levels.
