A 9-year-old boy died after crashing an ATV into a North Carolina field, the sheriff’s office said.

The child was wearing a helmet when he crashed the off-road vehicle in Ramseur on March 7, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Steven Nunn told McClatchy News.

The sheriff’s office responded to the crash around 5:23 p.m., Nunn said.

No one else was in the ATV, he said.

There will not be any arrests, he said, because it was a “tragic accident.”

Ramseur is about 63 miles west of Raleigh.
