A new dine-in theater chain will open this month in Charlotte’s University area, the company announced Tuesday.

Cinergy Dine-In Cinemas will open March 29 at 5336 Docia Crossing Road in Prosperity Village, Cinergy Entertainment Group said in a news release. It took over the former Studio Movie Grill location near Interstate 485 that remained permanently closed during the COVID pandemic after the company filed for bankruptcy.

The new movie theater location will have 10 screens, recliner chairs with swivel tables, serving food and offering a full bar.

It will be the eighth location and first in North Carolina for the Dallas, Texas, chain.

On Tuesdays, ticket prices are $5 all day, according to Cinergy.

And on April 9, the theater will host a french toast breakfast to celebrate “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.”

Tickets are now on sale at cinergy.com/movies/charlotte.

The 13-year-old company is privately held by owners Jeff and Jamie Benson. Cinergy has 75 screens with seven locations in Texas and Oklahoma.

At some its venues, Cinergy also operates 42 bowling lanes, 24 axe throwing areas, elevated ropes course with zip lines and more than 400 arcade games. The Charlotte site will not have bowling, axes or zip lines, however.
