NC police officer charged with driving while impaired has resigned, officials say

A Salisbury Police officer resigned from the force after the State Highway Patrol arrested him in Mecklenburg County on Thursday on a charge of driving while impaired.

Officer Israel McCants joined the Salisbury Police Department in November 2018, according to a Salisbury Police Department news release on Friday.

McCants was a Police Officer II assigned to Patrol Team Baker, according to the department.
