NC woman hit a jackpot. She tried again and scored a bigger prize, officials say.
A woman who previously won a million-dollar lottery jackpot landed an even bigger prize when she tried a different game also for the first time, N.C. lottery officials said Friday.
Just two months after her first win, 41-year-old Shelby resident Kenya Sloan won $2 million on a $20 scratch-off ticket, according to a lottery news release.
“I was like, ‘No way this happened again,’” Sloan said about her jackpot in the $2 million Diamond Dazzler game. “But it did.”
She beat odds of 1 in 3.07 million, according to the Diamond Dazzler game page on NCLottery.com.
Three top $2 million jackpots remain to be claimed.
Sloan bought her latest winning ticket in October at Esha Food Mart in Shelby, officials said.
“I was just standing there in shock,” Sloan said when she claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Thursday. “I just feel blessed. That’s all I can say.”
In August, her $1 million jackpot came in the Carolina Jackpot game.
For her latest prize, Sloan could choose between a $100,000 annuity over 20 years and a $1.2 million lump sum, officials said. After taxes, she took home $855,006 after selecting the lump sum, according to the lottery.
After her first win, Sloan said she wanted to buy a house. She also bought land for the new home, which she’s almost finished building, according to the lottery.
With her $2 million win, she said she’s going to make another of her dreams come true: opening a soul food restaurant.
