Jimareo Sherrill had a difficult yet enviable decision to make after winning a $1 million scratch-off lottery prize: receive his earnings all at once or over 20 years.

Sherrill, a Charlotte resident who bought the $10 Million Spectacular ticket from a Walmart Supercenter on North Tryon Street for $50, had to choose between receiving his prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years, or a lump sum of $600,000.

He chose the lump sum.

After the required state and federal tax withholdings, an NC Education Lottery press release said, Sherrill ended up taking home $429,014.

The odds of Sherrill winning the $1 million prize were 1 in 813,895.5, according to the NC Education Lottery website.”

The $10 Million Spectacular game, which debuted in December, has a range of prizes, including five top prizes of $10 million, 20 prizes of $1 million and 20 prizes of $100,000, according to the press release.

There are still five $10 million prizes, 17 $1 million prizes and 18 $100,000 prizes left to be claimed.
