It’s no secret that the Carolinas have a long list of summer hot spots to cool off in and soak up the sun, but one popular river has been ranked as one of the best in the country.

USA Today released a list of the 10 best rivers for tubing across the U.S. as part of its 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards. Ranking among the top ten destinations for a dip in the water is North Carolina’s very own French Broad River in Asheville.

“The French Broad River (believed to be the third-oldest river in the world) offers plenty of floating opportunities for tubing enthusiasts,” the report says. “Asheville has several access points along the French Broad’s urban stretch, where you can float past Carrier Park and the River Arts District. For views of cliffs and forests, there are put-in sites and outfitters in the historic town of Marshall. To float the Upper French Broad, look to the town of Rosman.”

The French Broad River— which was named from early European settlers—is 115-miles long and one of the few that flows north from Rosman, North Carolina to the Tennessee border.

There are multiple ways to access the river and several companies that you can check out for tubing rentals or guided tours. Here’s a list of some in the Asheville area:

Aside from tubing, the French Broad River is also a popular destination for kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and more.

Ranked 10th on the list, the Asheville river was the only one in North Carolina voted as one of the best for tubing across the U.S. You can find the full list of the top rivers to visit during the summer online at 10best.usatoday.com.
