A “shivering and scared” dog was saved from a ditch — and now, the “sweet” pup needs a new home.

“My foster mom says I’m just a good dog who wants to please,” a North Carolina animal rescue said in a Facebook post written from the perspective of William the dog. “I’m looking for a loving home where I can continue to thrive.”

The Triangle Beagle Rescue didn’t share how long William has been in its care. But William’s foster mom in a July 18 email to McClatchy News said the dog made it to safety after a good Samaritan spotted him “cold and afraid” in the Tarboro area, a roughly 70-mile drive east from Raleigh.

“My journey to Triangle Beagle Rescue began when a kind-hearted person found me shivering and scared in a drainage ditch near Tarboro,” the rescue wrote on William’s behalf. “Since then, I’ve been getting all the love and care I need to recover.”

Early on, William tested positive for heartworms and was “covered” in fleas and ticks. The rescue placed the pup in a foster home as he started his path to recovery.

“When I picked William up, he was looking at me from under the rails of the deck, his tail wagging,” his foster mom said in a statement the rescue shared with McClatchy News via email. “He was a sweet dog from the beginning. He let me pick him up and put him in the car, and I even got a small lick.”

The animal organization said William is receiving treatment and continues to improve. Meanwhile, the roughly 2-year-old, 30-pound dog is “known for giving great doggy kisses.” He also can’t get enough hot dog treats and belly rubs.

“I’ll tap your hand if you stop rubbing my belly — it’s my favorite thing,” the Triangle Beagle Rescue wrote for William.

As of July 18, the Raleigh-area rescue said William was still in need of an owner. More details about its adoption process can be found at tribeagles.org.
