Lottery player wins $1.1 million prize in North Carolina. Where was the ticket sold?
A lottery player hit the jackpot — and is set to take home a life-changing prize in North Carolina.
The player bought a Cash 5 game ticket that matched all the numbers picked in the Aug. 5 drawing, making it worth $1.1 million, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.
The $1 ticket was sold at a convenience store in Moore County, a roughly 65-mile drive southwest from Raleigh. It came from the Friendly Mart in Robbins, lottery officials wrote in a news release and on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The lucky player beat 1-in-962,598 odds to score the “massive” jackpot prize of $1,134,413. Despite the big win, the player’s prize came short of beating the record Cash 5 jackpot of $2.1 million, officials said.
In North Carolina, lucky ticket holders have about six months to cash in. But the Cash 5 winner didn’t waste time and was claiming their prize as of 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 6, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email.
