A dog found in an “unthinkable situation” waited two years for a home — then came good news.

The Triangle Beagle Rescue of North Carolina said Harvest, who was saved from a dog-fighting ring, finally was adopted.

“I was sad to see her go, but at the same time I was beyond excited that we found what I thought was impossible, which is the perfect home for Harvest,” Katrina Formosa, who had been the dog’s foster parent, told McClatchy News in an Oct. 29 phone interview. “She needed very special people to come into her life.”

Harvest got a fresh start after she landed at the Raleigh-area rescue in October 2022. She arrived as part of an animal cruelty case and was “totally terrified” to be around people, according to Formosa and the animal organization’s social media posts.

“This sweet beagle girl arrived in her foster home unsure, timid, and in need of lots of love,” rescuers wrote on Facebook. “Over the past two years and four weeks, she blossomed, gaining confidence, and learning how to dog.”

Harvest is described as a dog who loves to cuddle and play with other pups. She had been in foster care longer than any other dog at the rescue, according to a social media post from June.

Then came the heartwarming news that Harvest was matched with her new owners, who had wanted to adopt an overlooked pup and have another canine companion in their home.

Formosa said the family previously cared for Harvest and noticed the beagle cowering under their deck. So before adopting Harvest, they took steps to prepare their yard for their new addition.

“We celebrate a long-awaited milestone as Harvest has found her perfect forever family,” the rescue wrote. “Huge thanks to her incredible foster mom, who poured her heart into helping Harvest feel safe and loved. Here’s to all the cuddles, adventures, and happy days ahead for Harvest and her new family!”
