A lottery player spent $2 on a ticket — and scored an “epic” jackpot win.

The North Carolina player bought an online ticket that won the top prize in the Bison Bonanza game on Feb. 3, making it worth $717,538, results show.

Bison Bonanza is a progressive jackpot game that offers online tickets starting at 50 cents. To win, a player must match several digital icons, rules show.

Though the N.C. Education Lottery doesn’t know where the winner was when they bought their lucky ticket, the person lives in Raleigh, a spokesperson told McClatchy News via email.

As of early Feb. 4, the lucky ticket holder hadn’t come forward. In North Carolina, winners have about six months to cash in on their Bison Bonanza prizes.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
