Crashes on the Virginia section of Blue Ridge Parkway killed two people within 24 hours, according to the National Park Service.

The victims included a man on a motorcycle and a woman on a bike, officials said.

Details remain vague on how bicyclist Sharon Kaye Nicholson, 67, died just before noon Saturday, June 21. She was visiting from Norfolk, Virginia, the park said.

“Parkway dispatchers received a report of an accident involving a bicyclist and car near milepost 7,” officials said. “The bicyclist ... succumbed to her injuries at the scene. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.”

Motorcyclist William Greer, 44, died around 8:30 p.m. the day before, near milepost 126, officials said.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Greer was traveling northbound when he struck a car turning left into an overlook,” officials said. “The driver and passenger of the turning car sustained minor injuries.”

Greer was from Boones Mill, Virginia, officials said.

The parkway is a two-lane winding road that covers 469 miles through the Appalachian Highlands of Virginia and North Carolina.
