Powerball player misses jackpot but still wins big in NC. Where was ticket sold?
A Powerball player just missed a $163 million jackpot — but still won big in North Carolina.
The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the June 30 drawing, making it worth $50,000, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The winning numbers: white balls 13-28-44-52-55, with red Powerball 6.
The lucky $2 ticket matched four of the while balls and the red ball to win big. It was sold at a Carlie C’s grocery store in Clinton, a roughly 65-mile drive southeast from Raleigh, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News via email.
While the lucky player has a lot to celebrate, their ticket was one number away from scoring the larger jackpot prize. No one hit that jackpot, which stood at an estimated $163 million the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
Lottery officials shared news of the $50,000 win early July 1, before the lucky ticket holder would have been able to claim their prize in person. In North Carolina, Powerball winners have about six months to come forward, rules show.
