A lengthy investigation into meth dealing in eastern North Carolina concluded this week with an 80-year-old being jailed under a $1 million bond, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect was arrested during a Dec. 3 traffic stop in the Boiling Spring Lakes area, as he was hauling some of his product, officials said.

“During the stop, deputies recovered approximately 11 ounces of methamphetamine from the vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said in a Dec. 4 news release.

“This arrest follows a three-month investigation, during which (the man) was identified as a supplier connected to multiple drug distribution areas throughout Brunswick and New Hanover counties.”

Warrants report the suspect conspired with another man to deliver more than a half a pound of meth to a buyer on the day of his arrest.

The suspect lives in Dunn and described himself as unemployed, with a monthly income of $1,826 a month, court records show.

He has been charged with:

  • Three counts of trafficking in methamphetamine
  • Possession of methamphetamine with the intent to manufacture, sell or delivery
  • Maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substances
  • Conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Dunn is about a 40-mile drive south from downtown Raleigh.
