A driver who called 911 after hitting a pedestrian is facing felony charges, after she left the man in the road and he was hit by a second car, according to investigators in western North Carolina.

It happened just before midnight on Saturday, Jan. 3, in Asheville, and the 33-year-old pedestrian died at the scene, Asheville police said in a news release.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2019 Ford Flex was traveling eastbound on I-240 and exiting when it struck a pedestrian, later identified as Daniel Anthony Duryea,” police said in a Jan. 7 news release.

“The driver of the vehicle called 911, provided information, and left the scene. Shortly thereafter, Duryea, still lying in the roadway, was struck by a second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle remained on the scene.”

Investigators identified the driver who left the scene as Shaina Renee Dallachiesa, 37, of Marion, Virginia.

She was arrested in Virginia on Jan. 7, and is being charged with felony hit-and-run causing severe injury or death, and driving while license revoked, police said.

Asheville is about a 130-mile drive northwest from uptown Charlotte.
