‘Armed and dangerous’ suspect recaptured after leaving hospital, NC police say
A man who was wounded during a police confrontation has been recaptured after he vanished from a hospital, according to investigators in North Carolina.
Ahmon Jymir Ali Henderson, 28, was arrested Tuesday “without further incident” near the same apartment community where he was shot, the Newton Police Department reported Wednesday, Feb. 4.
A search for Henderson was launched after he was released from a hospital without the knowledge of police, officials said. He was described as “armed and dangerous,” officials said.
Henderson has been charged with two felony counts of second-degree burglary, felony possession of a stolen firearm and a misdemeanor resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer, officials said.
He was hospitalized Monday after being wounded at the Sandalwood Court Apartments in Newton, police said. A 911 caller reported Henderson was armed and trespassing at the apartments, officials said.
“Officers were then advised that the subject had fled the apartment and was hiding in a shed located behind the apartments,” police said.
“While officers were checking the area behind the apartments, a male exited one of the sheds and ran toward officers. During that encounter, one officer discharged their firearm, striking the subject in the leg. The subject was immediately detained, and officers began providing life-saving measures until EMS arrived.”
A second suspect linked to the case was also arrested Tuesday, police said. Kalis Sani Davis Farley, 19, has been charged with three felony counts of accessory after the fact, felony harboring a fugitive and felony obstruction of justice, police said.
Newton is about a 40-mile drive northwest from uptown Charlotte.
