Charlotte woman’s $1 bet wins big in NC lottery. ‘We are going to Disney World’
A Charlotte woman’s modest $1 wager in a digital lottery game beat odds of 1 in 64.5 million to win the jackpot, the North Carolina Education Lottery says.
Jennifer Orbock won the top level “Alakazam” jackpot in the Magic Winnings Vegas game on Thursday, March 19, officials said. The game has a progressive jackpot that keeps growing until someone wins.
Orbock tapped the play button as the jackpot sat at $707,600.
She showed up at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Monday to claim her prize, and it came to $509,543 after state and federal taxes, lottery officials said in a March 24 news release.
“We are taking the kids to Disney World,” Orbock said in the release. “I always thought I had jackpot DNA. ... It’s still just unreal.”
Magic Winnings Vegas is a digital instant game that offers plays from 50 cents to $30.
“After Orbock won the jackpot, it restarted at $100,000 and has grown to over $127,000 as of Tuesday morning,” lottery officials said.
