Homicide investigated in Huntersville, police say. Suspect yet to be identified
A wounded Charlotte man who died early Sunday at a University City hospital is believed to have been shot in Huntersville, according to investigators.
The man has been identified as 20-year-old Henry Leonel Vindall Branco, Huntersville police said in a May 4 update.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were alerted to the shooting around 4:30 a.m., after the Branco arrived at Atrium Health University City on North Tryon Street, officials said.
“Upon arrival, officers were informed that an unknown individual had transported the victim to this location for treatment of a gunshot wound,” CMPD said in a May 3 news release. “The victim later succumbed to his injuries shortly after being dropped off.”
An investigation determined the shooting occurred around 4:15 a.m. on Weller Way near Bryton Corporate Center Drive in Huntersville, officials said.
“The Huntersville Police Department has assumed primary responsibility for the investigation, in coordination with CMPD,” Huntersville police said in a news release.
“Investigators are actively conducting interviews and working to determine the exact location and timeline of the incident. At this time, the suspect has not been identified. ... There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.”
