Couple’s odd ‘date night’ involved driving pickup across golf course, NC cops say
An adventurous “date night” ended in handcuffs for a North Carolina couple, after deputies spotted a pickup circling the greens at Charlotte National Golf Club, according to investigators.
It happened Sunday in Indian Trail, and resulted in an odd pursuit that ranged from 15 to 45 mph, a warrant reports. The course is about a 20-mile drive southeast from uptown Charlotte.
“Deputies observed a pickup truck driving on the golf cart paths at Charlotte National Golf Course during the night. As the vehicle exited the course, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop and instead returned to the golf course, traveling across the property,” the Union County Sheriff’s Office said in a June 25 news release.
“It was discovered that the vehicle had damaged several benches on the golf course and left tire marks near multiple greens, causing damage to the property.”
The pursuit was still in progress when deputies contacted the pickup’s registered owner by phone and learned “he was in the truck with his girlfriend ... who was driving,” officials said.
“Both individuals returned to the clubhouse at the request of law enforcement and were taken into custody,” the sheriff’s office said. “Date night ends in the rough.”
The 33-year-old woman was charged with misdemeanor fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and second degree trespassing, records show. She lives in Indian Trail.
The 38-year-old owner of the pickup also lives in Indian Trail, and he was charged with second degree trespassing, records show.
