Watch a SC lawmaker sing 'Les Misérables' on House floor

After days of drama debating a $6.9 billion state budget, the S.C. House chamber was turned temporarily into a musical stage by a freshman legislator on Wednesday night.

While House members waited for the session to restart after a dinner break, Rep. Roger Kirby, D-Florence, serenaded his colleagues standing at the podium with a solo from "Les Misérables."

The Lake City real estate appraiser received a standing ovation for singing "Bring Him Home."

But Kirby's time killer was not needed.

House Speaker Jay Lucas, R-Darlington, decided a little later to adjourn the session until 1 p.m. Thursday while a compromise is hammered out on a $500 million bond package.
