Union high school principal, assistant principal resign

The principal and assistant principal at Union County High School have resigned and school district officials have not explained why.

Multiple media outlets reported that Principal Floyd Lyles and Assistant Principal Jenelle Gilliam resigned Wednesday.

Union police arrested three students after a fight at the school Tuesday. It was not clear if the resignations were connected to the fight and arrests.

The students were charged with disorderly conduct.

Leaders at other schools in the county are working as interim leaders at Union County High School.

School Superintendent Kristi Woodall said she does not understand why some parents and students thought the school was dangerous and skipped class Thursday.
