Deputies warn information of ex-mill workers in SC might be stolen

Oconee County sheriff’s deputies say someone appears to have stolen personnel files from a closed Seneca textile mill and could be using the information to open fraudulent accounts.

Investigators said in a statement Friday that any former employees of the Westpoint Stevens plant should look at their credit statements as soon as possible to see if someone is using their identifying information for fraud.

Deputies say if former workers see any evidence of fraud, they should call the sheriff’s office to help them find out who might have taken the information.

Westpoint Stevens officials did not return a phone call seeking comment Friday.
