SC teen charged with sexual battery after impregnating minor

A 17-year-old Pinewood man is facing charges after he allegedly had sex with a female victim between the ages of 11 and 14 and impregnated her, according to Sumter County Sheriff’s Office officials.

Braden Bunch, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said Armonie Freeman has been charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor after he had sex with the female victim while she was visiting a family member’s house in the 100 block of Railroad Avenue.

Bunch said while the victim was getting vaccination shots at a clinic when the physician noticed that the victim might be pregnant. A pregnancy test was conducted and it determined that the victim was pregnant. The mother said she did not know her daughter was sexually active.

The physician called the sheriff’s office to alert them of the teenage pregnancy. When the officer arrived, the victim told him that she had sex with a next door neighbor that went by the name of “Amariam” or “Bootsie” in December 2014. The victim also told the officer that the suspect’s age was around 17.

Bunch said a warrant was drawn for Freeman’s arrest following a forensic investigation, and he was taken into custody early Wednesday.
