SC teen charged with murder after basketball court death
A South Carolina teen was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of Matthew Horne on a Greene Street basketball court.
Malik Shakur Stanfield, 17, of Beaufort was arrested by police at 2 a.m. and is being held at Beaufort County Detention Center, according to a Beaufort Police Department release.
Horne, a 20-year-old Beaufort man, was shot and killed April 30 on the court across from the Charles Lind Brown Activity Center.
Stanfield also was arrested May 4 and charged with interfering with a police officer, according to court records. He was released on his own recognizance the next day.
In 2014, Stanfield pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods valued at $10,000 or more, a felony, and was sentenced to three years of probation under the Youthful Offender Act, court records show.
The investigation into Horne's murder is still active, police said. Anyone with information can call investigator Josh Dowling at 843-322-7950 or the tip line at 843-322-7938.
