At least nine people shot at South Carolina nightclub, SLED says

At least nine people were shot overnight at a nightclub, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

As of Sunday afternoon, no one in the shooting had died, SLED spokeswoman Renée Wunderlich told The State.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning at Cara’s Lounge in Hampton County, Wunderlich said. That’s at 72 Ashley Circle Road in Furman, near U.S. 601.

An “Easter Bash” event featuring music by a DJ and exotic dancers was held at the club Saturday, according to a Facebook post promoting the event.

The time of the shooting was not available.

Information about the medical conditions of the shooting victims was not available.

There is no word on a shooter, or shooters, or a motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported by SLED. Information was not available about if the shooting is considered an isolated incident or an ongoing threat to the community.

SLED is leading the investigation into the shooting at the request of the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened hours after 14 people were injured in an unrelated shooting at the Columbiana Centre shopping mall in Columbia, about 100 miles north of Hampton County.
