Wingstop’s newest wing flavor has South Carolina roots. Here’s when you can try it
Wingstop is going “gold” with a new wing sauce inspired by traditional South Carolina barbecue.
The new Carolina Gold BBQ sauce rolled out at Wingstop restaurants nationwide on Monday, Dec. 5, but is only available for a limited time, the Texas-based chicken chain announced in a news release.
Rooted in traditional southern flavors, the new sauce “is defined by a distinct mustard base and tangy flavor profile,” according to a product description.
“Wingstop’s Carolina Gold BBQ flavor maintains the classic queues of mustard, vinegar and brown sugar flavors that are true to its origins, but – in Wingstop fashion – our flavor stands out from the crowd,” Chef Larry Bellah, Wingstop’s director of culinary and research and development, said in a statement, adding the sauce is “heavier on the sweetness.”
Customers can try the sauce hand-tossed on traditional bone-in and boneless wings, as well as crispy chicken tenders, according to the release. The sauce is also available on Wingstop’s first-ever chicken sandwich, which launched in August.
The new Carolina Gold BBQ is available to order in-store, online and on the Wingstop mobile app.
