South Carolina

SC got a ‘C’ grade for the quality of its education system, new ranking shows. Here’s why

The state of South Carolina recently earned a 76.43/100 in a 2023 Quality of Education Index.

The score was based on five factors, put together by online tutoring company Learner, which were applied to every state to determine how their education systems rank.

These five factors include the average SAT score, average ACT score, teacher-student ratio, public education spending and the high school graduation rate for each state.

The higher a state scored on the Quality of Education Index means the better the education is overall in comparison to other states. For example, the highest a state could score would be 100/100 and the lowest a 0/100.

Education is an important and widely debated topic nationwide, whose outcome can have a sizable impact on future generations. Aside from overall quality, basic education between states can vary greatly and even class requirements between them can be vastly different.
