Driver killed when van runs off South Carolina road and flips over, coroner says

One person was killed Friday in an overnight crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Lorenzo A. Reyes-Garcia, a 36-year-old North Augusta resident, died in the crash, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about midnight in Aiken County, Lance Cpl. Nick Pye said.

A 2003 Chevrolet van was driving west on Dixie Clay Road when it ran off the left side of the road near the intersection with Trail of Sand Lane, according to Pye. It veered off the road at a curve, the Aiken County Coroner’s Office said.

The van then crashed into a tree and flipped over, according to Pye. The driver suffered blunt force injuries and died at the scene, the coroner’s office said.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was the only person in the van, according to the coroner’s office. No other injuries were reported.

The collision continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office. Toxicology tests are pending, the coroner’s office said.
