A 3-year-old South Carolina girl died Sunday, prompting an investigation, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

The toddler was identified as Jackson resident Riley Scott, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a news release.

At about 9:30 p.m., Aiken County EMS responded to a call about an unresponsive child at a home in the 100 block of Ellen Drive, according to the release. That’s near Atomic Road, not far from the state line between South Carolina and Georgia.

EMS took the girl to Children’s Hospital of Georgia in Augusta where she was pronounced dead, Ables said.

An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday in Newberry to determine the toddler’s cause and manner of death, according to Ables.

The coroner’s office did not say if foul play was suspected.

Riley’s death is being investigated by both the coroner’s office in addition to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
