These two taco joints in South Carolina rank among best in US, Yelp says. Here’s why
If you’re craving a satisfying taco, you may not have to venture far from home.
That’s because South Carolina is home to two of the nation’s best taco joints, a new report finds. Asada in Greenville joins Taco Kitchen in Charleston on a list of “Top 100 Taco Spots in America.”
To create the list, the review website Yelp said it focused on food-related businesses across the country. It “ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews” over time.
The results were published Sept. 26, ahead of National Taco Day on Oct. 4. But Yelp users said the two South Carolina restaurants gave them reason to celebrate all year long.
What makes the SC taco joints special?
Of the ranked restaurants, Asada in Greenville ranked the highest at No. 67. The restaurant said it gets inspiration from the Mission District, a San Francisco neighborhood that has played a role in making people in the United States familiar with Latin American cuisine.
On Yelp, some customers couldn’t get enough of the restaurant’s “Mission style tacos,” made on corn tortillas and topped with chicken, fish, steak or pork. Others were fans of the chicken karaage tacos, featuring “Japanese style fried chicken” and a slaw that mixes flavors from Latin America and Asia.
“Don’t be surprised to see a mishmash of worldly food and flavors on a tortilla,” Asada wrote on its website.
Like Asada, the other South Carolina taco joint that was recognized received more than four out of five stars on Yelp. The restaurant — Taco Kitchen in Charleston — landed at No. 95 on the nationwide list after customers raved about tortillas served throughout the day.
While some customers said they loved the restaurant’s breakfast tacos, others took to Yelp to praise the lunch offerings.
Taco Kitchen’s spot in the rankings adds to a list of accolades for Charleston restaurants this year. The tourist hot spot also has ranked among the best U.S. destinations for food lovers, McClatchy News reported.
On the latest Yelp list, the nation’s favorite place to eat tacos was Aroma Latin American Cocina in Henderson, Nevada, outside of Las Vegas.
