Sports car crashes into auto dealership lot, killing one and injuring another, SC cops say
One person was killed and another was injured Saturday night when a sports car crashed into a lot at an Upstate auto dealership, according to the Greer Police Department.
The collision happened at about 10:15 p.m. at 13755 East Wade Hampton Blvd., police said Monday in a news release. That’s the Greer Mitsubishi dealership.
There were two people in a 2006 Honda S2000 that ran off East Wade Hampton Boulevard and crashed into two vehicles at the dealership, according to the release.
Both occupants in the Honda were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where the passenger, 39-year-old Max Charles Harris, died from the injuries he suffered in the crash, police said.
Further information on the driver’s condition was not available.
There was no word if either Harris or the driver were wearing seat belts.
Information about what caused the sports car to veer off the road was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by police and the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
Police said no charges have been filed related to the crash.
Through Nov. 3, at least 817 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 53 people have died in Spartanburg County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data. There were 45 deaths reported in the county in 2023, DPS said.
