After recent Gamecocks’ win man was shot near stadium. Now trio are in jail, SC cops say

Three people were hurt in a recent shooting that happened near Williams-Brice Stadium following a recent Gamecocks’ win, and Thursday three men were arrested, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Wendell Snow, 38, Terrell Singletary, 20, and Dominque Rivers, 19, were charged with various crimes, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

One of the men is accused of being the gunman who opened fire in the Nov. 2 shooting that happened in the 1400 block of Bluff Road. That’s in Columbia, about a mile from the home stadium of the University of South Carolina football team.

At about 11 p.m. Nov. 2, deputies responded to a shooting that happened just after the Gamecocks’ 44-20 win over the Texas A&M Aggies, and found a man who had been shot in the upper body, according to the release. Further information on that man’s condition was not available.

Days later, investigators learned that two additional victims had been shot, and one of them is a juvenile, the sheriff’s department said. There was no word on those victims’ conditions.

During their investigation, deputies found out that the shooting followed a fight between two groups, according to the release. Information about why the groups were fighting was not available.

As the fight escalated one person, later identified as Snow, pulled out a gun fired multiple shots, the sheriff’s department said.

Only one of the three victims was involved in the altercation; the other two were passersby who were hit by gunfire as they were walking home following the football game, according to the release.

“There is nothing more selfish than to put other people’s lives at risk to make yourself look tough,” Sheriff Leon Lott said in the release. “Here, we have an individual who chose to use a gun to solve his problems in the middle of a large crowd of innocent people just trying to get home from a football game.”

Early Thursday morning, deputies with the Fugitive Task Force and Special Response Team served arrest warrants at Snow’s home, where Singletary and Rivers were also found, the sheriff’s department said.

After taking Snow into custody, deputies searched the home and discovered multiple firearms — one of which was reported stolen out of Florence — and multiple drugs, according to the release. The stolen gun and drugs led to the arrests of Singletary and Rivers, the sheriff’s department said. There is no information that they were involved in the Nov. 2 shooting.

Snow was charged with two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and simple possession of marijuana, according to the release. Singletary was charged with possession of a stolen pistol and Rivers was charged with possession of a schedule V drug, the sheriff’s department said.

No bond has been set for any of the three men who are being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, jail records show.

“Let this serve as a reminder that we have no tolerance for people who choose to open fire in our streets,” Lott said. “To the fans who plan to enjoy future games, please continue to travel in groups and stay aware of your surroundings.”
