A ho-ho-home is on SC man’s Christmas list after winning lottery game’s grand prize
The rapidly approaching holiday season got off to a great start for a Midlands man who won a scratch-off game’s $500,000 grand prize, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
The man purchased the recently released holiday Shimmering Riches ticket for $10 at a convenience store on Broad River Road in Columbia, officials said said Wednesday in a news release.
He said the immediate shock of winning a half-a-million dollar prize has not worn off, according to the release.
“When I look at my bank account, I can’t believe it,” he said after it was boosted by the six-figure payday.
As for spending the newfound windfall, the winner has something specific in mind to add to his Christmas shopping list, according to lottery officials.
“I’m trying to find a house,” he said.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
Three of the Shimmering Riches game’s $500,000 top prizes remain unclaimed, according to the release.
The odds of winning the six-figure top prize in the scratch-off game were 1-in-1,128,000, officials said.
Broad River Mart in Columbia received a commission of $5,000 for selling the claimed ticket, according to the release.
