Bodies found inside burning South Carolina home, coroner says
Two bodies were recently found at a home in South Carolina where there was fire, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
On Sunday, just before midnight, the coroner’s office was called to a house fire in the 100 block of Taylor Pond Road, Coroner Darryl Ables said Monday in a news release. That’s in Graniteville, in the area between Exit 5 and Exit 11 on Interstate 20.
At 1:08 a.m. Monday, two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
Ables said that the victim’s names will be made public after they have been identified and their families have been notified.
No other injuries were reported.
Neither the victims’ causes nor manners of death have been announced by the coroner’s office. Autopsies will be conducted in Newberry in an attempt to determine that information, according to Ables.
There was no word if foul play was suspected in the deaths.
Information about how long it took to extinguish the fire was not available.
There was no word about the cause of the fire, and where in the home it started.
Information about the extent of the damage caused by the fire, if the home was considered a total loss or if any other residents were displaced was not available.
In addition to the coroner’s office, the deaths are being investigated by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
