Man who won SC lottery game’s top prize has plan for his winnings, it involves not working
A man who recently won a South Carolina Education Lottery game’s grand prize said he knows what he’s going to do with his newfound windfall — stop working.
“It’s time for me to retire,” the man who won a $180,000 jackpot told officials, according to a Thursday news release.
The man who won the Palmetto Cash 5 game’s grand prize purchased the six-figure winning game at a gas station/convenience store prior to the Sept. 12, 2024 drawing, according to the release.
What turned out to be the winning Palmetto Cash 5 ticket was sold at the Yana Food Mart on West Palmetto Street in Florence, officials said.
The winning numbers from the Sept. 12 drawing were 1, 3, 9, 17 and 19.
The Palmetto Cash 5 ticket matched all five numbers drawn to win the game’s top prize, officials said.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
While the winner said he’s retiring from his job, but he’s not quitting on his lucky numbers, according to the release. He plans to keep on playing them on future lottery tickets, officials said.
“It’s just a chance,” the man said. “I feel blessed.”
The odds of winning $180,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 850,668-to-1, according to the release.
The Yana Food Mart received a commission for selling the winning ticket, officials said.
The Palmetto Cash 5 jackpot for Thursday night’s drawing is $170,000.
It costs $2 to purchase a Palmetto Cash 5 ticket, and drawings are held on a daily basis at 6:59 p.m., officials said.
