SC woman’s spur-of-the-moment lottery ticket purchase pays off in game’s grand prize
A woman said she didn’t expect to win a South Carolina Education Lottery game’s grand prize when she made a spur-of-the-moment decision to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket. But that’s exactly what happened, as the Upstate resident won a $200,000 jackpot, officials said in a news release.
The woman told officials that she didn’t believe what she was seeing when scratching off the big win.
“It was a big surprise,” the woman said in the release.
The winner spent $5 to purchase the Lucky 7 game at the Lil Cricket gas station/convenience store on Ninety Six Highway in Greenwood, according to the release.
The odds of winning $200,000 playing the Lucky 7 game were 720,000-to-1, according to the release.
The woman said she knows how she’s going to spend her newfound windfall.
“I’m going to find a new home,” she said.
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
This was the last of the game’s four grand prize winning tickets to be claimed, officials said.
The Lil Cricket convenience store received a $2,000 commission for selling the winning ticket, officials said.
