15-year-old stabbed by another teenager, who’s charged with multiple crimes, SC cops says
One teenager was hospitalized Tuesday and another teen was charged with multiple crimes after a fight turned into a stabbing, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
It was about 6 p.m. when deputies responded to a home in the 2000 block of Pleasant Ridge Drive regarding a reported assault with a weapon, the sheriff’s department said Wednesday in a news release. That’s in Columbia, in the area between Leesburg Road and Garners Ferry Road.
Deputies found a 15-year-old victim who had been stabbed in the torso, according to the release.
The 15-year-old was treated on the scene before being taken to an area hospital, the sheriff’s department said. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.
Deputies determined there was a physical fight between the victim and a 14-year-old where no weapons were initially involved, according to the release. During the fight, the 14-year-old picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim, the sheriff’s department said.
Information about why the teens were fighting, or their relationship prior to the incident, was not available.
The 14-year-old left the home before deputies arrived, but the law enforcement officers were able to find the stabbing suspect at that teen’s home, according to the release.
The 14-year-old, who was not publicly identified because they’re a minor, was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said.
The 14-year-old was taken to a South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice facility, according to the release. There was no word if the 14-year-old was released to the custody of a parent/guardian or if they’re still locked up.
